To mark the anniversary of the end of the war, the Bode Museum has come up with something special: It is showing Paul Klee's "Angelus novus" together with Dürer's engraving "Melencolia I" and manuscripts by Walter Benjamin.
One can compile a few images, texts, photos, and perhaps a film clip for almost any contemporary historical occasion. If the combination is coherent, perhaps what is called a place of remembrance, a special form of commemoration, emerges. The exhibition that the Berlin State Museums are presenting at the Bode Museum on the eightieth anniversary of the end of the war, is a place of remembrance for the philosopher Walter Benjamin.
